Employees do not have an all size
schedule that fits all shifts. several things in their personal lives might
conflict with 9-to-5 hour shifts throughout the week. Regardless of whatever
the reason could be, staff appreciates a versatile schedule, conjointly called
flextime, permitting them to customize their hours inside a choice of
combinations of hours and days.
What does flextime refer to?
There is no set time that comes to this
concept nor there are any legal constraints to offer such flexibility to the
employees. It’s completely upon the decision of the businesses to decide
whether they want to offer such perks or not.
Flextime is a bliss to the employees in
-Child care or family affairs are some
examples of conflicting schedules that an employee can face. In some cases, the
spouse might need attention like in cases of pregnancy or sickness.
-A part-time worker might have to attend
lectures at the university or one might have to visit a doctor for an
appointment at that time. This eventually leads them to turn up late for the
Flextime is considered to be an unpaid
bonus that allows the staff to consider the job a duty and not a burden. This
has a large effect on the employee satisfaction as they are allowed to fulfill
their personal goals, while still being focused on doing the job rather than
worrying about their personal lives and affairs.
Flextime as a policy may not work for
everyone so it has some downsides as well –
Sometimes setting flexible timing can be
a bit time-to consume.
There can be a loss of the bonding
Inconsistency and delays can take place
Scheduling meeting and group gathering
can prove to be a problem.
If we break down the concept, it still
needs that staff maintains a precise variety of time commitment. Flextime works
best once work is either extremely individual in nature or data technology
permits opportunities for synchronous collaboration.
The results of the survey (by hbr.org)
of over 1,000 working men say:
-Only 29% had regular timings while 66%
stated they use this policy when they need to.
-73% were satisfied with the idea of
working from home
-78% stated they were comfortable with
using flextime to a certain extent.
-62% agreed that their bosses motivate
them to use flexible schedules.
-Men who used this policy said they were
happier, healthier, more motivated and less stressed at their workplace.
-Men stated that they were ready to
receive less monetary compensation for more flexible jobs.
The survey shows that one of the main
factors that affect the workforce is flexibility to deal with their needs. This
policy might have some negative aspects too but overall it proves to be
beneficial for the business in today’s world as it makes the employees more competitive
and satisfied and the workforce is the base for every success today.
