Darwin’s theory provoked, was answered in the small

Darwin’s theory of evolution
causes some challenges and some difficulties for Christians. So today how should we reply to the scientific
theories that confront us? At the root of the problem is: how am I able to believe God if I acknowledge evolutionary theory and alternative scientific
advances.

The late nineteenth century saw
the birth of the question of evolution. Since the theory of evolution began to grow apace, people began to doubt
the validityof the Bible.
Specifically they began to look at whether or not the Bible was verbally inspired and divulged truths concerning the Creator God and
mankinds place in creation. The implication was that if the Bible isn’t
verbally inspired then
its truth isn’t guaranteed.
This suggests the question; what’s the standing of the Bible compared to any other writing?
Since the Bible is at the heart of our religion, the inference is
that the Christian religion and belief in God isn’t true.

The challenge and doubt that Darwin’s
theory provoked, was answered in the small statement in Genesis 1:1 that God created the
heavens and the earth.
This is a huge concept to test the intellect of anyone. The vast galaxy we exist in is spinning
at 490,000 miles per hour. Even at this speed it takes our galaxy two hundred million
years to complete one rotation. And there are over one billion alternative galaxies within the universe.

Bramlett, (2003) says,
“Astronomers say that the total number of stars in space could equal or surpass the total
number of grains of sand on all the seashores of the world.” Nevertheless the complicated ocean of spinning stars
dance together with exceptional order and grace. To state the universe simply happened or
evolved needs more belief than to have
faith that God is behind these astonishing
numbers. God really did produce a beautiful universe.

God didn’t have to create the
universe; he chose to do it. This is because God is love, and love is best expressed towards another person or thing.
Thus God created us and our world as a sign of his deep love.
We must always avoid
reducing God’s creation to just scientific words.

Burch Brown (1986) tells us
that Darwin actually rejected Genesis as true history and declared that different species transpired by a really slow method of evolution. He
knew that Genesis instructed that God created plants, animals and man by
commands. Therefore in his logic either he was wrong or Genesis was. Christians
will see that Darwin
embraced the incorrect view, In his autobiography Darwin called it a ‘manifestly
false view of
the world’ however that’s not what’s recorded in
Genesis.

How God created everything
(Genesis 1:1) continues to be the topic of discussion. Some say there was a sudden explosion
and the universe
came into creation. Others claim that God started the procedure and the universe grew for that command over billions
of years. Virtually all scientists  and faiths have an opinion on the origin of the universe. However, it is
only the Bible which tells us that one supreme God makes the world out of
his love for us and gives all mankind a place to
dwell in it. We’ll never know the answers to how God did it, however, the Bible tells all that God did create the universe. That truth alone offers value and dignity to us.

Burch Brown (2003) also
tells us that Darwin rejected the miracles that
support our faith. The ‘fixed laws
of nature’ made miracles incomprehensible to him. He said that because these
laws are fixed then each miracle must be a lie. However, he would only know the
laws are fixed on condition that he is aware that
each reports is false. Thus he’s contradictory;
he dismissed the miracles by dismissing the sources; however he
dismissed the sources as they contained miracles. Darwin raised
intellectual snobbishness by the assumption that Jesus’ peers believed
in miracles out of a lack of awareness. We can however see that Joseph (Matthew
1:19) and Mary (Luke 1:34), knew how children are created, with a
man and woman joining. Thus they questioned the proclament of the Immaculate Conception, as they were aware of the facts of life, not as
they weren’t! Miracles ought not to be thought of as breaks within
the laws of nature, they are additions to
them. Thus to refute miracles, Darwin would have to have proved that nature is all that exists,
with no God able to act outside of His laws by which he commands it (Colossians
1:15). Christians have faith in miracles. From Genesis with the creative acts
of God, through Exodus and the amazing delivery of Israel from Egypt, to
Christ’s numerous miracles within the Gospels, and
also the disciples’ miracles in
Acts, we can see a God at work who is bigger than our imagination can create. He who
commanded existence by His word (Genesis 1) can easily change what happens in
His creation by His own will.

Darwin believed that ‘survival of the fittest’ made design redundant. He saw ‘natural
selection’ as the culling of
unfit parts. This would uncover unseen mixtures of genes
that have invariably been there since creation and stay unchanged.
However, it would rely solely on existing genetic info, and can’t manufacture something new.
Therefore it has nothing to do with design.

Darwin additionally believed that ‘survival of the fittest’, instead of a belief in God, would account for all the
happiness and misery within the world. God originally created an ideal world, there
was no violence or death (Genesis 1:29-31). Once this innocent world
was tainted by the disobedience of Adam, it brought an unwelcomed presence to us, death (Genesis 2:17). Now, however, due to the sacrifice
of the Redeemer on the cross, our relationship with God will be restored     and we can
live in peace with Him.

The Bible doesn’t discuss the topic of
evolution. Rather, it assumes God created everything. The biblical stance of
creation isn’t in opposition with science; rather it’s in opposition
with any stance that starts without a creator.

Committed Christians have
struggled with the topic of creation and reached
differing conclusions. This can be expected
as a result of the age of the evidence and it being quite fragmented. Students of the
Bible and of science ought to avoid polarisations and black/white thinking.
Students of the Bible should use caution to not make the Bible say what it doesn’t say, and
students of science should not make science say what it doesn’t say.

Of most importance in this
continued discussion
isn’t the method of
creation, but the origin of creation. Our planet isn’t a product of blind probability; God
created it.

The Bible importantly tells
us who God is, not just how all was created by God, It reveals God’s temperament, His
character, and His divine plan for creation. It additionally shows God’s
desire to relate to and have fellowship with us, His creations. God took the
ultimate step towards fellowship with us. He visited us within His son,
Jesus, and allowed the sacrifice. We can be sure that God created the universe
in way very personal to Him.

The book of Genesis
begins, “God created the heavens and the earth.” Our religion relies on God’s Word, and none can ever be able to prove whether or not God exists (Hebrews 11:6), as that would then make them greater than God. Even so Christian
thought isn’t irrational and is supported by logic and reason (Romans
1:18–20, 1 Peter 3:15). Darwin had errors of logic, and his arguments against
God failed as a result of the proof that God has given
us evidence of both His Word and
His nature.

Taking the above into consideration, Darwin doesn’t destroy Bibical belief in God’s creative purpose.
The two sides are compatible in many ways. The Genesis creation story is over 2,500
years old and was written when people lived different lives in an undeveloped setting with limited language. Psalm 104 offers poetry to the story and supports the wonders
in Genesis. Answers to troublesome thoughts, like we became typically concerned God, because God was the explanation for all.
The study of science was then for the most
part unknown. The Genesis stories shouldn’t be
compared too closely to scientific theories. These scientific theories come
more recently.

There are some, conservative
Christians who believe that the seven days of creation within the Bible
refer to seven longer periods of time. They argue that the order during which living
things were created is consistent with the and the order scientists settle for evolution
to have happened which this gives the Bible’s account additional
credibility.

Importantly the Genesis
creation story doesn’t look to supply a scientific answer to questions about the origins of the universe. It’s there to
make clear that God is in
complete management of the universe because He desires it. It shows
that God designed the universe and us to be for a purpose. If Darwin’s theory is to
be accepted, it’s as a result of God overseeing this activity. God
created nature together with everything else. Christians have speculated about ‘intelligent design’, that everything is planned and designed by God, and each modification that
takes place is the direct will of God in creation.
